Meet Kate
Kate Marshall (née Soltero) grew up in a hardworking union household shaped by her family’s immigrant heritage—her father’s roots in Mexico and her mother’s in Ireland. As one of six siblings, she learned resilience early, working her way through high school, college, and law school. Kate then began a long career of service to our community, including a successful track record fighting for Nevada families as State Treasurer and Lieutenant Governor. Now, she’s running for Mayor of Reno to continue giving back to the community she has called home for decades.

Smart Investments and Management of Reno’s Budget
As Nevada’s former State Treasurer, Kate has a proven track record of balancing budgets, cutting red tape, and saving Nevada taxpayers millions of dollars. As Mayor, she’ll be a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars, ensure we invest in services that benefit Reno families and help our businesses thrive, while making smart investments and keeping the budget balanced.
Tackle the Housing Crisis
Growing up in rentals, constantly moving to a different school and a different neighborhood when rents increased, and watching as her father lost their only home to foreclosure, Kate knows on a personal level how important it is for Reno to remain affordable. She has seen how the rising cost of homes has impacted our city, and believes that housing must keep up with population growth. Kate supports building both affordable and market rate housing. Home ownership builds wealth and stability and relieves pressure on the rental market, and Kate believes that no matter what one’s income is, everyone should have a place they can call home.
Common Sense Solutions for Reno Families
As Mayor, Kate will launch new efforts to support our small businesses, connect families to child care providers, and encourage workforce development, just like she did as Lieutenant Governor. She’ll spearhead a regional strategy for wildfire prevention and management, to protect Reno residents and homeowners from this devastating threat.
